We all want that picture perfect, flawless skin right? And we ask ourselves, what is it I should be using? why is this product so expensive but doing NOTHING for my skin? It has such good reviews, it must be the best for my skin, right? We have advertisements EVERYWHERE... whether it's on a Television advert or scrolling through Social Media and you see your favourite influencers or celebrities recommending a product or brand and you think.. I NEED THIS! and then later to discover actually.. my skin concerns haven't disappeared OR even worse, you have gained a different skin condition. It can get very confusing sometimes to know what we should be using for our skin's type, and our skin conditions, without knowing what your skins type and conditions, you may be using the wrong products for your skin.
SKIN TYPE V SKIN CONDITIONS
Your SKIN TYPE is the skin you are born with, your ethnicity and genetics. You can determine your skin type by looking at your pores. You CANNOT minimise your pores, they are determined at birth and you cannot change the size BUT certain products can MINIMIZE the appearance of your pores.
Skin type is based on how much oil is produced in your oil glands, so have a look at your skin and your pores, if your pores and more enlarged it means your skin is more likely to secrete oil, meaning more oily skin, if you have minimal pores your skin is going to produce less oil, meaning your skin would be on the dry side, as shown in the diagram above there are four different skin types, NORMAL, OILY, DRY & COMBINATION. Which one are you?
Your SKIN CONDITIONS on the other hand can change throughout your life due to EXTERNAL and INTERNAL factors, you are NOT born with a skin condition!
This could be due to a list of things, let's bullet point...
INTERNAL
Lack of sleep
Smoking
Medications or Drugs
Lack of exercise/movement
Alcohol
Caffeine
Stress
Hormones and Menopause
Dehydration
EXTERNAL
Sun damage ( Are you exposing your skin to harmful rays? Not wearing SPF?)
Environment/Pollution
Climate (when you change climate or go on holidays you see changes in your skin)
Poor skin care routine/Using the WRONG skin care products
Hygiene and skin maintenance
There are many factors in your life that can change your skin conditions, some we cannot control, but some we definitely can!
Here is a list of a few different skin conditions...
Acne
Rosacea
Sensitivities
Comedones
Dehydration
Sun Damage
Hyper Pigementation
Hypo Pigmentaition
Irritation
IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW, YOUR SKIN TYPE SHOULDNT BE A SKIN CONDITION!
IT SHOULDN'T BE SOMETHING THAT DEEPLY EFFECTS AND BOTHERS YOU BECAUSE... IT CAN BE CONTROLLED! Maybe you just don't know how yet...
if you are a dry skin type but taking care of your skin correctly... you should not be suffering with dryness.
If you have a oily skin type and your balancing your skin correctly, you should not be suffering with breakouts, blemishes & blackheads....
